Dean of Nursing at Houston Community College
Donna Spivey is the Dean of Nursing at Houston Community College. Dr. Spivey is currently serving as President for the Board of Directors for the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). Dr. Spivey started her nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse on a medical/surgical floor at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia, LA. Her love for nursing lead her to nursing education. She has worked as a faculty member and Nursing Program Director. Over her many years of nursing, Dr. Spivey was staff educator and ED Director at a level 4 trauma center as well as other nursing roles. Dr. Spivey has been active at both the state and national level promoting nursing education. Her professional activities include: Past President of the Texas Association for Associate Degree Nursing and Treasurer of Texas Association for Associate Degree Nursing; past board member of OADN; and has presented at the OADN conference and other state conferences on a variety of nursing topics. In addition to OADN, Dr. Spivey is a member of the American Nurses Association; Organization for Nursing Leadership, Texas Community College Teachers Association; International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning; Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society and Golden Key International Honors Society. Dr. Spivey has volunteered for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to help raise money for scholarships in education. Dr. Spivey was the recipient of the Chair Academy International Exemplary Leadership Award and was named Who's Who among Students in American Universities. Dr. Spivey completed her Associates Degree in Nursing at the Louisiana State University-Eunice; Bachelor degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch; Master's degree at the University of Texas at Tyler with an emphasis on Nursing Leadership and her DNP from American Sentinel University with an emphasis in the Leadership of Nursing Education.
